The Portland Climb supports both Baby Blues Connection and Postpartum Support International.
Join us as we symbolically rise out of the darkness of maternal mental illness and into the light of hope and recover on the longest day of the year.
Climb Out of the Darkness is a world- wide fundraising event. Climbs are happening all over the US and in other countries! It’s goal is to draw attention and raise awareness. One in 7 women will experience some form of maternal mental illness such as postpartum depression, postpartum anxiety & OCD.
From the PSI website: Help us shine the light of hope with our words and our advocacy efforts so that our fellow mothers will receive better information and better treatment, and their new families will get off to the healthy and strong start they deserve.
The Portland Climb Out of the Darkness is organized by Grace Parsons, Sarah Ziegler and Angie Fitzpatrick. Here is a link to the Crowdrise page to sign up and raise funds to support both organizations.
If you are interested in sponsoring this event, hosting a table or otherwise becoming involved please send Angie an email (angie at baby blues connection dot org). Want to display a poster? Be in touch! Join us on Facebook here.
The Portland Climb will begin at the Visitors Center (map here) at 10 am on June 24th. There will be the option to walk a shorter or longer path. One can also just come to offer support and not walk (IE ‘climb’). There is no obligation to raise funds however we’d like to suggest challenging yourself to set a modest goal (perhaps $100) and asking your friends and family to support you. Need tips on communicating the importance of the walk? Be in touch!
There will be more details to come! Mark your calendar to Climb Out of the Darkness on June 24th!
